Maternity Sessions

Once in a lifetime special sessions

Maternity shoots are special because they are once in a lifetime events. Many couples may have 1 - 3 children so the opportunity to really capture these special events is very limited.

Special care should be spent on finding the right outfits to make your maternity session extra special and elevate the images your photographer may capture. While it is the photographers job to capture these sessions, everything you do can help elevate these sessions to a whole other level.

Book your Session early

Book your session at the proper time which for many ladies is around 30-33 weeks. I generally don't like to book anything past 36 weeks because the risk of missing your shoot if your baby arrives early is much higher. Be on the safe side and book at the 30-33 week mark and you should be able to reserve your spot on my calendar.

Bring Your Partner / Kids

I love when moms want to get pampered and have this milestone session done just for themselves. I also love when their partner comes along as we can makes some even more special images of you two together. If you have kids, bring them along for even more cool ideas and an even more intimate session with the whole family!

Choosing a Maternity Dress

This is probably one of the most important decisions for your photo session. The design and style of your maternity dress can elevate your images and help you achieve a particular look you may be after. There are plenty of maternity dress stores both brick and mortar and online that cater to a wide variety of tastes and styles. Be careful with your budget. Shop smart and you may be able to find what you are looking for at a proper price range. Make sure your coordinate your outfit with your partner or rest of the family if they are coming along to the session.

Gathering your Props

Props are great to use for maternity shoots and there are several ideas you can use for these sessions.

  • Baby booties
  • Ultrasound photos
  • Baby clothing with baby's name on it
  • Chalkboard messages
  • Baby book
  • Lettering (B *belly* B Y for example)
  • Block Letters
  • Letter Boards (push in letters)

Bring The Family Pet

Bringing along your Dog or even Cat is definitely possible. Please discuss with me before you decide to move forward on this. This limits you to specific locations that are pet friendly and you also may want to bring a handler along to watch after your pets while we get photos of just you two.

Hair and Makeup

Unless you are a professional makeup artist or have great skills with your makeup, I would strongly suggest investing in a Makeup artist to get you all setup before your shoot. At this time I do not have anyone on staff so this is something you will have to work into the shoot schedule on the day of your session.
